A common challenge for new writers is the pencil/pen grip: how do I grip the pencil? what do I do when my hand hurts? what can I do to make it easier to write?

The most common issue seen in beginner writers is that their pencil/pen grip is too tight! This causes their knuckles to turn white, their hands to hurt and in addition they tire more quickly; this causes their writing to become less legible and they become increasingly frustrated which becomes a feedback loop. What can you do to solve this?

Below we have a few photos that show how a beginner writer can hold their pencil with a little, homemade device held in the palm of their hand. This creates a habit of gripping the pencil or pen in a certain way, eventually removing the device completely!
